Fresh Bread cooked in your Tandoor
Cooking Bread in a Flowerpot
Here we have tandoor bread, not your typical Indian bread, but a bread cooked inside a flower pot inside your tandoor.
This is a really simple recipe, but has the wow factor when cooked in the floor pots, especially when put on the table before the main meal. Now I cooked this in the Tandoor, but you could just as easily cooked it in the pizza oven. The key thing to note is not to cook too hot. The ingredients for the bread are as follows:
- 225g Strong Wholemeal Bread Flour
- 225g Strong White Bread Flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 10g yeast preferably fresh
- 1 tbsp runny honey
- 270ml warm water
- 50g mixed seeds, pumpkin, sunflower, poppy and Sesame
Start by putting the flours, salt and yeast into a large bowl. Stir the honey into the warm water and then add to the bowl. Mix with a wooden spoon and then turn out to knead for 10 minutes. Once kneaded put the dough in a covered bowl and allow to rise for about 1-2 hours. Once risen take out the dough, and knead the seeds in. Devide the mix and put it into the flower pots. Cover again and leave to rise until it is at the top of the pot. Now add some more seeds on top for decoration and we are ready to bake. I cook for around 20-25 mins at a temperature around 400F or 200C. Again remember you don’t want the oven too hot, which can easily happen with the Tandoor. To test when they are ready, take them out of the oven, then the bread out of the pots and tap the bottom. If it sound hollow then it is cooked.
OK that’s it, very simple, and you get the WOW factor. If you want to see me making these for the first time checkout the video below
